How to be an Asset at Work! (Part 2)
Here goes the second part of our great list!
Find the good in everyone around you and acknowledge it!
I know, you're not Mary Poppins and you don't want to be. Well, guess what, you don't have to be! Just find one good thing, any good thing about that cranky boss or annoying co-worker. Maybe they always have great emails, her hair is never out of place, his vocabulary is brilliant, whatever you can find. By finding a good thing, then complementing on it aloud and publicly, you are going to bridge that not so awesome gap that is inevitably there. Don't fool yourself, it's going to be tough with some people. But you can do this! You must!
Put yourself out there!
You need to market your worth. But first, you must know your worth. Find
that part of you (or many parts if you can) that you know your business
can't live without! Then market the heck out of it! GO ahead, show off
those acknowledgments and awards you earned for your work. Just don't
grow an ego. A great subtle way to market your worth is help someone
else who lacks your area of expertise.
Make each situation a Win-Win!
This one is going to be a bit tricky. But, simple none the less. All you have to do is find a way to help someone while you help yourself. The lesson is an easy one, you can't be selfish and be awesome at the same time. Just not possible. So, how can this upcoming project help you and your boss? How can your next meeting benefit you and your partner? Get this down, and you're in!
Trust your heart, gut, and brain!
This can be a complicated balance for some people. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly how to do this point, it's a more personal one. But I can point you in the right direction. For one, you should know the difference of the three. The Brain is your knowledge, what you've learned, what you know. Your gut is your concise, what you've been through, your instinct. Your heart is your vision, your dreams, what you want. So, to find a balance you must take your vision (your heart), pair it with your knowledge (the brain), and make sure it's compatible with your initial instinct (your gut). With all of these working together, you will be unstoppable!
Be the Inspiration & Leader you need
Having a leader is needed. You will always need someone to show you the way. However, you don't have to look too far for one. Why can't you be who or what you need? Where is the rule against it? If you think about it, you are waiting for this inspiration and leader to help you succeed, correct? So you're putting your fate in the hands of someone else. How smart is that? Why would you? Take hold of your own career destiny and be your own leader! Make your own inspiration!
